Dr Rob Grenfell, a Public Health Physician, has broad ranging public health experience including;

• National Medical Director at BUPA Australia New Zealand,
• National Director Cardiovascular Health at the Heart Foundation,
• Strategic Health Advisor to Parks Victoria,
• Senior Medical Advisor at the Department of Health Victoria,
• Physician in charge of travel health BHP, and
• General Practice.

He was a member of the Safety and Quality Outcomes Committee of the Hospital Innovation Reform Council, a member of the Victorian Quality Council and Member of the Health Advisory Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council. His directorships are detailed below.

Maureen Turner is a highly respected leader in health informatics and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of BioGrid Australia, a not-for-profit membership organisation. With over 15 years’ experience in healthcare and research, she has been pivotal in advancing data integration and collaborative research efforts across the country. Maureen specialises in the strategic development and management of complex data platforms that enable secure and ethical access to integrated clinical, genomic, and biospecimen data for researchers and clinicians.

Under Maureen’s leadership, BioGrid Australia has expanded its capabilities, supported translational research and improved patient outcomes through the integration of diverse datasets. Her commitment to ethical data sharing and her strategic vision have established BioGrid and its membership as a leader in the Australian health informatics landscape.

Maureen holds honorary fellow positions at the University of Melbourne in the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health and Deakin University in the Institute for Health Transformation. 

Prior to her current role Maureen held senior management positions in the commercial sector in Business Development, Marketing, Operations and Commercial Risk at global companies Ford Motor Credit Company and Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

Between 2001 and 2011, Maureen was a non-executive director of the Australian Institute of Management – Victoria & Tasmania (now known as Institute of Managers and Leaders), where for the last four years of her tenure she was the Board Deputy Chair. In addition, Maureen was a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee for seven years.

Maureen is the current Company Secretary of BioGrid Australia.

Paul obtained his PhD at Melbourne University, and a Graduate Diploma Business (Organisational Development) at RMIT University. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Society of Health Informaticians and a Certified Health Informatician (Australia). He is Deputy Chair BioGrid Australia and Associate Professor Health Informatics at Deakin University. He is an Editor for Pomegranate podcast of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Paul specialises in independent strategic advisory services aimed at helping organisations make the most effective use of information and digital capabilities. Paul believes strongly in the benefits of diversity and has been a diversity champion throughout his career.

Paul is the current Deputy Chair of BioGrid Australia.

Nicole is a senior executive with over 20 years’ experience across education, health, and the not-for-profit sector. She is currently Director of Business at Westbourne Grammar School. Nicole provides strategic and operational leadership across finance, governance, risk, ICT, and capital development, with a strong focus on organisational sustainability and effective stewardship.

Nicole is an experienced non-executive director and board chair. She also serves as a director on a number of other not-for-profit boards. She brings expertise in governance, strategy, finance, and risk management, and is a strong advocate for lifelong learning and professional development.

Clare heads the Ovarian and Rare Cancers Laboratory at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. She has 20 years’ experience in treating breast and ovarian cancer and in clinical cancer genetics in Familial Cancer Clinics. Clare has been Principal Investigator for more than ten cancer clinical trials of targeted therapy. In the laboratory, Clare has developed ovarian and other rare cancer pre-clinical models and is using genomics to study targeted drug combinations to combat drug resistance.

Clare has established a rare cancer research program to improve access to targeted treatments for patients diagnosed with a rare cancer. Clare was awarded the Sir Edward Dunlop Cancer Research Fellowship from Cancer Council Victoria (2012) and a Clinical Research Fellowship from the Victorian Cancer Agency (2011, 2017). In 2018, Clare was recognized for her work in gynaecological cancers with the Jeannie Ferris Recognition Award from Cancer Australia.

Clare’s contribution to the community is reflected by her instigation of and participation in the WEHI’s Consumer Advisory Panel, now a leading example of involvement of the public in a Medical Research Institute. Clare also leads CART-Wheel.org, a BioGrid Australia platform for consumer data entry for people with a rare cancer who would like to participate in data collection for research.

Karin has extensive experience in text and data analytics in biomedicine. Trained as a computational linguist, her contributions range from formal representation of biomedical data to machine learning over biological databases and analysis of social media for public health purposes.

She has published in journals including Nature Methods, Bioinformatics, and BMC Bioinformatics. Her group’s 2014 article in BMC Bioinformatics was selected as a Best Paper in the 2015 Yearbook of Medical Informatics. She held previous posts as the Scientific Director of Health and Life Sciences at NICTA Victoria Research Laboratory, at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and in AI start-ups, refer to directorship listing below.
