CART-WHEEL rare tumour database

CART-WHEEL (Center for Analysis of Rare Tumours) was an ethically approved rare tumour database supported by BioGrid Australia.

CART-WHEEL ceased operation on 6 October, 2026.

What is CART-WHEEL?

Effective research into rare tumours can be difficult due to the small numbers of each type of tumour diagnosed each year.

CART-WHEEL brought together data provided by individuals from around the world, giving researchers access to a greater wealth of information and supporting consumer-driven research into rare tumours.

For participants in the WhiMSICAL study, participation has now moved to a new mobile and web-based platform.

Information for WhiMSICAL study participants

WhiMSICAL has moved to a new platform

After nearly ten years of successful data collection via the CART-WHEEL questionnaire, the WhiMSICAL (Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia Study Involving CArt-wheeL) study has transitioned to a more specific, flexible and accessible mobile and web-based application to better serve the global community of patients with Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia (WM).

The WhiMSICAL study is no longer conducted through the CART-WHEEL website. Instead, the new mobile and web application allows participants to report their data more seamlessly on their phone or computer. This change is designed to make participating in the study easier and more convenient.

The WhiMSICAL mobile and web application is currently available to participants in Australia and will be introduced progressively in other countries.

If the app is not yet available in your region, your data will remain securely stored and you will receive a separate invitation as soon as registration opens in your country.

What you need to know about the transition

The data you have already entered into the CART-WHEEL database will be securely transferred to the database of the new mobile and web application using security measures that meet international standards.

When you register for the app, you will be asked to provide your consent for the migration of your data.

Continuing the WhiMSICAL study

While the study platform is changing, the study team’s commitment to security, safety and research integrity remains the same.

The WhiMSICAL app and web platform replaces the CART-WHEEL questionnaire for WM and allows participants to continue contributing valuable information about their WM experience to drive WM research forward.

Questions or concerns?

If you have any questions or concerns about the transition, your data or your participation in the study, please contact the WhiMSICAL team at info@whimsicalstudy.com.

Thank you once again for your invaluable contribution to the WhiMSICAL study. Together, we are making a real difference improving outcomes for patients with Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia.
