Data Integration and Access

Data Collection and Registries

From registries and clinical databases to patient-reported outcomes, BioGrid helps researchers and institutions collect, structure, and connect data for research.

When the data you need doesn’t already exist

Not every research question can be answered using existing datasets.BioGrid can help establish new data collections or strengthen existing ones, ensuring information is captured consistently and can support research over time.

This can include:
Research registries

Establish structured collections that support longitudinal research, clinical programs, and research across multiple sites.

Clinical and research databases

Create databases designed around the specific information, workflows, and research questions of a study or program.

Patient-reported outcomes

Collect surveys, questionnaires, quality-of-life measures, and other information directly from patients.

Existing database integration

Connect client databases with other internal systems or approved external data sources.

Purpose-built collection tools

Develop secure web-based applications where standard systems do not meet the requirements of the research.

Built around the research need

BioGrid works with researchers and clinicians to shape data collections around the requirements of the project rather than a fixed technology solution.

Depending on the use case, BioGrid can support:

  • single or multi-site data collection

  • longitudinal follow-up

  • clinician-entered data

  • patient-reported information

  • integration with existing systems and research datasets

  • reporting and ongoing research use

Where appropriate, BioGrid can support established tools such as REDCap or develop more tailored web-based collection solutions.

Experience across clinical and research collections

BioGrid has developed and supported a range of registries and clinical research databases, including:

What is the ACCORD Database?

Designed in partnership with oncology healthcare professionals, ACCORD (the Australian Comprehensive Cancer Outcomes and Research Database) is a web-based application for the collection and management of information relating to cancer patients diagnosis, treatment and outcomes. Through a simple user interface, ACCORD enables clinicians to review and update patient information at any time, including within clinics.

These datasets include demographic, surgery, pathology, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, recurrence and follow-up information.

Tumour Streams

ACCORD enables the collection of a comprehensive and/or minimum dataset across a wide range of tumour streams, including:

AnalHepatocellular carcinomaPancreatic
BladderHead and NeckProstate
Bone & Soft TissueHepaticRenal
BreastLeukaemiaSkin (non-melanoma)
CervicalLung – NSCLCSmall bowel
CholangiocarcinomaLung – SCLCTesticular
CNSLymphomaThyroid
ColorectalMelanomaUnknown primary
EndometrialOesophagealOther
GastricOvarian

An ACCORD Chemotherapy Prescribing module, incorporating eviQ protocols, is currently in development. Please contact us if you would like to discuss the development of an additional module for other tumour streams.Once installed, ACCORD can be connected to the BioGrid Australia data linkage platform, enabling data to be used for approved collaborative clinical audit and research projects.

Connect what you collect

A new registry or database does not need to operate in isolation.

Where appropriate and approved, BioGrid can connect collections with existing clinical, research, administrative, or external data sources to create richer datasets for research.
