Researchers at BioGrid Australia member and/or collaborator institutions may submit new or amended applications requesting access to data connected to BioGrid using our online application system.
Authorised researchers can explore and visualise data on specified connected data utilising a web interface.
Authorised researchers can utilise this comprehensive data and statistical analysis application to analyse, explore and visualise connected datasets for approved audit and research projects.
Set out below is a step by step process for accessing data available through BioGrid. With our absolute emphasis on ethical usage of data and strict patient privacy, the process is understandably quite detailed. But we’re sure the results, the information, the insights and the research time saved will be well worth it.

Terms & Conditions
Each custodian of the databases you have selected will be notified about your request. They will review your project details and decide either to approve your access to their database or may contact you for further information.
If your project has current ethical approval from an accredited Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) your application will bypass the HREC review process. Acceptance of BioGrid Australia’s Terms and Conditions of Data Access, and the approval of all relevant data custodians, is still required.
If your project requires ethical review and approval, two members of the BioGrid Australia Expert Scientific Review Panel overseen by Melbourne Health will evaluate your research project regarding scientific quality and the potential impact of the research. Once your project has received two independent scientific reviews with a score of 3 or above, your project will be submitted to Melbourne Health HREC for ethical review.
All research projects without ethical approval must be scientifically evaluated then submitted for ethical review before a project can be given approval to commence. The Melbourne Health Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) provides ethical oversight for projects without ethical approval in the BioGrid Access Request System..
After your access has been approved by all relevant parties, a database administrator will create logins and assign access to approved databases for your project. The login details will be sent to each applicant via email.
You can now start analysing the data by using the tools provided by BioGrid. What can you do after you receive your login?
